How does the offset print work?

Offset printing (lithography) is a type of print technology, where special colour has been applied to metal plate with picture treated with mordant. Every full colour picture needs 4 of this kind of plates – yellow, red, blue and black, which is called as SMYK in polygraphy. Every colour plate is laid in their own offset equipment section, where the plate transfers the picture on to mediator surface – offset rubber, which in its place absorbs colour and transfers to paper.

When to use offset print? What are the advantages?

  • Offset print is categorised as fast tempo print and high picture precision, there for ideally suitable for large scale full colour works – newspapers, catalogues, posters.
  • It’s beneficial for range starting from 500 examples till unlimited quantity.
  • In offset print one can get high quality, fine pictures, also printing on papers with texture, as laying the colour, offset rubber adjusts to texture of printed surface, imprint consumes little of colour and dries quickly.
  • Products – magazines, newspapers, posters, booklets, business cards, forms, cards, envelopes, stickers, folders, note paper, calendars, tickets, etiquettes, invoices, books, paper bags, cardboard packing boxes etc.


What types of papers can one use for offset print?

This technology allows printing over papers various thicknesses – starting from 45 g/m2 (newspapers, etiquettes, self copying forms) till 350 g/m2 (folders, business cards, cardboard packing boxes).

How much does the offset print cost?

Many typographies use this print method widely, because it’s possible to print high quality products in big amounts. Although the equipment and its construction is fairly expensive, costs of printing are cheap and up till nowadays no other technologies can compete with it

What possibilities does the offset print offer?

  • Offset print guarantees the most precise colour and tone correspondence and adequacy.
  • In offset printing technology it’s possible to print not only in CMYK colour range, but also in pantones (includes also gold and silver), foil colours, mat and glanced varnish, forming multi shaped coloured pictures.
  • Material printed in this technology can be covered with UV varnish, in result of which the colours become deeper, more expressive, with mirror glitter. In offset print it’s possible to varnish separate details of picture, what creates strong contrast, and what can’t be provided with digital print.
